FOX ‘Glee’ is Not For Geeks

School will be out for them, as executive producer Ryan Murphy states that the Glee Club will be touring America once freshman year is over. “We’re going to do what American Idol has done and put the kids on tour” he said to the New York Post via TV Guide. “It all equals revenue streams for Fox.”

Despite competition from Criminal Minds and Law & Order: SVU On Wednesday nights, Glee continues to have heart, as it quickly earn critical raves and a strong fan base. The series follows the lives of staff and students of McKinley High, as teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) sets out to resurrect the Glee Club despite opposition from Nazi “Cheerios” coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).

Glee was recently nominated this year for three Teen Choice Awards, including “Choice TV: Breakout Series.” Five of its songs have already hit the Top 100 list of iTunes, as the cast performed songs such as Queen’s “Somebody to Love” and the Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.”

Despite being compared to High School Musical, Glee is a light-hearted break from all those procedural shows that have been ruling the airwaves this past decade as well as a show for the economic recession. Like Ugly Betty, it is a show about an underdog for the underdogs.

Glee releases the first of its five CDs on November 3, and its U.S. tour starts next summer. Catch Glee Wednesday nights on FOX, and you can catch up on the episodes that you’ve missed online at FOX Demand. And don’t forget to watch the final season of Murphy’s other series, Nip/Tuck, also on Wednesday nights on the FX network.
