Katie Holmes Ends Marriage to Tom Cruise

The marriage between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is about to go out with a bang, as the actress filed for divorce Thursday after five years of marriage.

The Hollywood super couple known as “TomKat” became an overnight sensation in 2005 when Cruise infamously jumped on the couch on The Oprah Winfrey Show – and declared his love to Katie. That summer, the couple scored two blockbusters: Tom in the remake of War of the Worlds, and Katie in Batman Begins as crusading prosecutor Rachel Dawes, the childhood friend and love interest of Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale).

Their whirlwind romance led to Tom proposing to Katie at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the birth of their daughter Suri in May 2006, and their wedding in Italy in November of that year.

According to TMZ, Katie is seeking sole custody of six-year-old Suri and a “suitable amount” of child support, but she and Tom have signed a prenup. Together, they’re worth a reported $275 million dollars, with Tom receiving most of it.

This was Katie’s first marriage and the third for Tom, who turns 50 on Tuesday. He was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, with whom he shares daughter Isabella (19) and son Conor (17).
