How do you describe The Blackness Detectives? Written in honour of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the current movie starring Robert Downey Junior and Jude law as Sherlock Holmes and John H. Watson, the book was meant to be a salute and nothing more.
After the brilliant reception that “The blackness” received, fans were wondering when will be the next one to add to e-book territory.
The only thing worthy of note is the escapades of the black sleuth duo just didn’t last long enough for many. It isn’t the first time K.O. Reuben has written a piece of fiction and left audience anticipating ‘the rest’. Athens: Till death do us part was a fine example of a book that came out the blocks which landed pretty quickly after getting fans waiting for more sequels.
The Athens story has several holes that could be debated. Meanwhile, The Blackness has more than triumphs where it failed, building suspense, climax, comedy and characters worth their weight in cinematic parallelism. The problem that arises, of course, is that the book finishes far too quickly with no sequel on the horizon. K.O. Reuben has reassured fans that contrary to popular belief, he is in fact working on the next chapter in the duo’s Roehampton adventures.
“It is really nice to be able to write something that people want to read. I believe in growth and getting better, so I definitely didn’t want to rest on my laurels and say ‘hey I made it’ but see what needed to be done to bring out a book that’s twice as good as the last. I want to double my readership and to do that, one’s writing has got to be interesting and worth reading,” he said.
