Wal-Mart Wireless Plan: Family Mobile

The Family Mobile service offers unlimited talk/text- $45 a month for the first user, with additional lines for $25. The service runs on T-Mobile’s network.

It costs less than AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile’s charges for similar service.

Family Mobile will be sold in the store. Phone choices are from Nokia, Motorola and Samsung costing $35. Customers can upgrade by phone at will.

“Walmart is known for great value, and we’re pleased to offer our robust network of nationwide coverage for Walmart Family Mobile,” Jim Alling, COO of T-Mobile USA explained.

“This new service is an innovative approach- offering post paid customers a low cost alternative for unlimited voice, messaging, web and inexpensive international calling, he continued.”

Activated accounts come with a free preloaded 100MB WebPak internet access package for every line of service. The WebPak is shared for all lines on an account, and unused data can be carried over from month to month.

Data services cost. International calls and data use cost extra, and have to be paid in advance by purchasing more WebPak refill cards.

Wal-Mart offers a service known as Straight Talk, from Verizon, and Common Cents with Sprint Nextel. Straight talk costs $45 a month too, but doesn’t have the advantage of extra lines.
