Jeff Pulver: Artists are Now Harnessing The Power of Social Media

With the reputation as the true pioneer of the Voice-over IP (VOIP) and leading thought leader on online television, it is no wonder why Jeff Pulver has such a busy schedule — including being the keynote speaker at the 32nd annual International Artexpo New York late next month with three days of free educational seminars and conference classes.

“There’s an opportunity for people to connect with artists,” said the chairman and founder of pulver.com, his blog site. “We’re living in a time where there’s an opportunity for people to discover your art worldwide. More and more artists are discovering social media; the public will discover you. We’re living in a time where voices are heard.”

Entitled “The Birth of the Back Channel: The Real-Time Web and How It’s Changing How We’re Doing Business,” the focus of Pulver’s speech is the effects of social media on the new art marketplace. To illustrate, Pulver refers to Now Media that includes social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and YouTube, and the Old Media known as radio, print and television. For instance, Susan Boyle became an international sensation overnight thanks to the Internet and her breakthrough performance on Britain’s Got Talent. When it comes to creating a web-series, Pulver states, there are no bosses, you do what you want to do, say anything that you want to say. The trouble? To find an audience to connect with and share your message.

“People want to own buzz,” Pulver continues. “If you want to be a trend or want to be popular, you have to do something interesting and engage with your audience, we’re living in times; where you have to make a transition. We’re living through a revolution, a social change where individual voices are affecting change around the world ..”
