Security forces have apprehended three United A’Chik Liberation Army (UALA) extremists in Assam’s Goalpara district along the interstate border with Meghalaya on Friday, officials said.
Based on intelligence received, the Army Red Horn division and police jointly launched an operation near the remote Mechelkhowa village along the Assam-Meghalaya border area in Goalpara district and captured the militants.
A Guwahati based defence spokesman said security forces recovered two 12 bore country made rifles, ammunition, two mobile handsets, and incriminating documents from the militants.
Two militants among the extremists came from Garo Hills in Meghalaya and another from the Goalpara district.
The militants were involved in extortion from local villagers along the bordering areas.
In a separate incident, security personnel apprehended five ultras belonging to NDFB(S) in Chirang and Kokrajhar districts on Thursday.
Following a tip-off, army and police launched an operation against the outfit group and captured two cadres from Chirang district and three from Kokrajhar district.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the militants.
