Jihajist Car Bomb Kills Egyptian Soldiers
A deadly terrorist attack killed 26 Egyptian soldiers at a checkpoint in Sinai.
According to reports, a jihadist car bomb exploded killing Egyptian soldiers and wounding scores of people near El Arish, the main town in Sinai.
The attack is considered to be one of the deadliest attacks in Sinai for months.
Sinai has been targeted by militant attacks after the ousting of President Mohammed Morsi by the army in 2013.
The army and security forces have been launching series of offensives in northern Sinai to counter the sprouting of jihadist groups.
U.S. Condemns Terrorist Attack in Sinai
In a press statement US Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki expressed strong condemnation of the terrorist attack that led to scores of deaths of soldiers at the military checkpoint in the Sinai near al-Arish.
“We extend our condolences to the families of the victims, and hope for the quick and full recovery of the wounded.” – Ms. Psaki
She stressed that a prosperous and dynamic Egypt requires an environment of security and stability, and the United States continues to support the Egyptian government’s efforts to counter the threat of terrorism in Egypt as part of the commitment to the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Looking Back
In May 2012, with the hope of regaining the country’s stability after the revolution, Egyptians headed to the polls to cast their ballots in the country’s first free vote for a leader in 5,000 years of history.
Around 50 million eligible Egyptian voters were called upon to choose 13 candidates.

Egypt has made progress on human rights since the revolution that toppled the regime of Hosni Mubarak.
