International Conference Honors Ralph Nader as Bertrand Russell Scholar

The world’s longest running conference on critical thinking is to honor Public Citizen Ralph Nader for his contributions to the advancement of fair-minded critical societies. Nader is to be recognized for his contributions through the Bertrand Russell Scholars Series, at the conference.

Honored by Time Magazine as “One of the 100 Most Influential Americans of the 20th Century,” Ralph Nader devoted his life to giving ordinary people the tools they need to defend themselves against corporate negligence and government indifference. He has been tireless, selfless and dedicated to his goals. He continues to expose the dangers that threaten a free and safe society.

The focus of the upcoming conference is “Cultivating Educated Citizens and Critical Societies through Explicit Fair-minded Critical Thinking.” It is targeted towards educators and citizens who are concerned with bringing critical thinking into the heart of education and society.

Over the past 35 years, the Center and the Foundation for Critical Thinking have hosted critical thinking academies and conferences, playing a key role in defining, structuring, assessing, improving, and advancing the principles and best practices of fair-minded critical thought in education and society.

The Foundation for Critical Thinking emphasizes the importance of fostering a substantive conception of critical thinking. This highlights the qualities of the educated person, and also implies the proper design of educational processes.

The Foundation illuminates the importance of education to the cultivation of public citizens and the advancement of free societies.

The conference takes place in Berkeley, California, from July 28 – 31, 2014, with a preconference running from July 26 to 27.
