Guwahati, July 28: At least six people including two security personnel were injured in a powerful grenade explosion in Guwahati on Sunday evening, police said.

According to report, the blast occurred around 7:55 pm on Sunday at the busy Paltan Bazar area near Paltan Bazar police station in the city.
“Suspected militants of anti talk-faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) had triggered the explosion at the busy commercial hub of heart of the city,” Assam police IGP of Western and Central range Dr L R Bisnoi said.
“At least six people including two police personnel were injured in the blast and they were rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH),” Bisnoi said.
The authorities of GMCH said that among the injured persons, three are in critical condition.
Paresh Baruah led ULFA militants exploded three grenade explosions in Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong districts in the past week, where two persons were killed and nine others injured.
The Home department of the state government recently issued a high alert across the state after the explosions in Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong districts.
On the 27th of July, Assam Chief Minister and Assam police DGP Jayanta Narayan Choudhury said that instigating from some external and internal elements ULFA militants planned to disturb the state until August 15.
Recently the Intelligence Bureau (IB) alerted the Assam police that a highly trained militant group of the outfit had entered in Assam and planned a grenade explosion in several parts of the state.
