Assam-Meghalaya Border: Two GNLA Militants Killed in Gun Fight

Guwahati, February 7: Two hardcore cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were killed in a gun fight with security forces in Assam’s Goalpara district along the Meghalaya border on Thursday morning, officials said.

The encounter took place at Amrengkana area under the Boko police station in the district along the Meghalaya border on the wee hours of Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched a search operation at the area, where a militant group was hiding.

“When the security personnel reached the dense forest area, the Garo militants started firing on the troops and forced us to exchange bullets,” a top police official said.

Two militants were killed on the spot and two others managed to flee from the encounter area and entered into the neighbouring state.

Security forces recovered two 7.65 pistols and ammunition in the slain militant’s possession.

Top police and army officials rushed to the area and launched an operation in the bordering area.
