Andy Griffith Dead at 86

According to Gael Fashingbauer Cooper at MSN, actor Andy Griffith died on July 3, 2012 at 86. Wikipedia tells us that time of death was around 7:00 a.m. (EDT) at his home on Roanoke Island in Dare County, North Carolina.

If one is a fan of TV from the 1960s, or current day The Andy Griffith Show reruns, it is most likely that fan did or does remember Andy Griffith as Mayberry’s Sheriff Andy Taylor.

1980s and 90s TV

Griffith later had another fan following when his character, the well known attorney Ben Matlock, was cast in the TV show, Matlock (1986-1995).

Andy Griffith, before being known as a “sheriff” and an “attorney,” gained prominence, first, in the starring role of director Elia Kazan’s epic film, A Face in the Crowd (1957).

Griffith worked in a variety of other TV and film projects. One of his last was that in July 2010 where he starred in ads for Medicare.
