Singapore and India Enhance Trade Cooperation

Singapore has discussed to renew or review the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) with India for further trade and investments endeavors.

During the four day-long visit to India, Singapore Foreign Minister Kashiviswanathan Shanmugum said it has discussed to review its trade with India particularly on efforts to enahnce Singapore-India trade.

In 2005, India and Singapore signed the agreement to enhance trade, investments.

The Singapore Foreign Minister said in 2011 the bilateral trade has reached 35 billion singapore dollars.

“India is an attractive destination for the investors,” the minister said.

Singapore is the second largest investor in India as well.

For the investment in northeastern region, specially in Assam, the Singapore Foreign Minister noted that the region has potential as an investment destination.

For the issue of connectivity, there is a plan to connect the north to south within the ASEAN countries, the minister added.

The Singapore Foreign Minister also attended a meeting with business leaders and Assam government officials.

He will visit Gujrat tomorrow and will meet state chief minister Narendra Modi.
