‘The Corruptible’ Book Review

Mark Mynheir continues The Night Watchmen series with ‘The Corruptible’. In this second outing, we become reacquainted with Ray Quinn. This former policeman has become a less than stellar private eye, dealing mainly with marital discord & the likes.

While he awaits his big break, he is visited by the messenger of a local bigwig. He agrees to meet this man & soon finds himself with a case of a lifetime. Egged on by a check full of zeros, he & his assistant, Crevis, embark. Their errand is simple on paper only: track down a missing employee who has stolen crucial company information. Mr. Quinn quickly discovers that he isn’t the only person searching for Logan Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey is discovered in a motel- deceased.

Why did Logan run off? What exactly did he take? Will Quinn safely find out?

Mark Mynheir is obviously very knowledgeable in the field of police work, as his biography clearly states. This knowledge is evident throughout his work. ‘The Corruptible’ has all the potential to knock it out of the park. But, there is just something missing in this novel. Mr. Mynheir is certainly quite skilled at creative phrasing & vivid imagery. I enjoyed his word choice immensely. There just seems to be an exciting element missing.

There were several occasions when the plot line left me wanting more. More action, more clear clues, more information- something along those lines. His characters are likeable & have a real feel to them. The dialogue is good, but at time borders on television drama- too predictable & cliche.

I believe Mark Mynheir has the talent and is capable of so much more than he’s delivered here. I would score this a 3 of 5 stars. As always, I encourage those reading this to explore for themselves. His book is available from www.waterbrookmultnomah.com . Any additional info you may like can be found there.

I received one free copy from the aforementioned publisher in the hopes that I would review this book. No other compensation was provided. I was under no obligation to deliver a positive review.
