Deadly Attacks Rock Nigeria’s Bayero University in Kano

Deadly attacks in Bayero University in the northern city of Kano has killed about 20 people as worshippers tried to flee from the attack.

Reports say unidentified gunmen armed with bombs opened fire at church services at the Nigerian university.

Witnesses say two church services were targeted as they were being held on campus.

The attackers reportedly threw in explosives and fired shots which caused stampede among worshippers.

Without mercy, some of the attackers ran after the worshippers and shot them with guns.

The United States today expressed strongly condemnation on the recent attacks on innocent civilians in Nigeria, including yesterday’s disgraceful assault during church services at Bayero University in Kano.

The US State Department says it concerned about attacks on churches, news media, and government installations that increasingly target innocent civilians across Northern Nigeria.

The United States condemns attempts by those in Nigeria who seek to inflame Christian-Muslim tensions, and support those who recognize Nigeria’s ethnic and religious diversity as one of the country’s greatest strengths.

On January this year, the Security Council expressed strong condemnation on the multiple terrorist attacks that occurred in Kano, Nigeria, in successive days.

The heinous attacks have caused numerous deaths and injuries. The Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Multiple attacks across the northern Nigerian city of Kano in January killed 150 people and resulted in large-scale casualties and massive destruction to property.

Boko Haram militants said they carried out the attacks in January, which would be their bloodiest assault to date.

Boko Haram is a local terrorist group professing allegiance to Al Qaeda. Boko Haram militants attacked several churches on Christmas Day, killing dozens of worshippers.

Boko Haram, which aims to install strict Shariah, or Islamic, law across Nigeria, has vowed to keep killing Christians in the multiethnic country.

Boko Haram, which loosely translates from the local Hausa language as “Western education is forbidden,” has been behind a string of attacks in recent years.
