Citizens of Japan Celebrate Their National Day

The citizens of Japan today celebrated their National Day.

Japan has close economic and military relations with the United States. The US-Japan security alliance acts as the cornerstone of the nation’s foreign policy, according to Wikipedia.

US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Japan.

Ms. Clinton also sent her best wishes to His Imperial Majesty on his 78th birthday.

Ms. Clinton said both the United States and Japan share a strong and vibrant partnership, and over the past year, both have continued to strengthen this relationship.

She stressed that the aftermath of the March earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis revealed the resolve and fortitude of the Japanese people, and the close collaboration between two countries.

“Your ability to emerge from this crisis to rebuild has been an inspiration around the world.” -Ms. Clinton

She emphasized that even as Japan continues to work to strengthen its economic foundations, the Japanese have continued to play an integral role as a regional and global partner on a number of important issues. She pointed out that in Iraq, South Sudan, and Afghanistan and other countries, Japan is helping people rebuild and strengthen democratic institutions.

She cited that around the world,Japan is promoting human rights and giving more people the opportunity to realize their potential. She added that the United States is grateful for Japan’s strong partnership on these and other issues.

“As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, know that the United States and the American people will continue to stand with you. I wish all Japanese people continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.” -Ms. Clinton

Japan has the world’s third-largest economy by nominal GDP. It is also the third-largest economy by purchasing power parity.
