Sarah Palin and "Book Banning"

Christian Newswire has reported today that Peter LaBarbera, the president for Americans For Truth, has charged liberal activists with rank hypocrisy, in which they accused Republican Vice President nominee Sarah Palin of "book banning" due to the concern she and her constituents made on controversial books such as Daddy's Roommate in the Walhalla Public Library.

Written by gay activist-writer Michael Willhoite, it tells the story of a young boy whose father divorces his mother and goes to live with his homosexual "roommate", Frank.

"Being gay is just one more kind of love" states LaBarbera, whose organization is setting out to launch its "Library Fairness Project" in righting the severe pro-homosexual book prejudice in local library collections nationwide. "There are other 'kinds of love' -- such as incest, polygamy and open marriages -- but we don't teach them to innocent, impressionable children using one-sided books and euphemisms favored by advocates of these aberrant lifestyles."

Recently, Palin was the focus of an article from The New York Times, when a former aide of hers was quoted in calling Daddy's Roommate as a book "which helps children understand homosexuality, and said it was offensive."

"All the charges of book-banning and censorship of books like 'Daddy's Roommate'", said LaBarbera, "obscure the Left's role as the nation's leading Institutional Censor in keeping traditional and faith-based books on homosexuality and other issues OUT of public libraries.

"I'll take the liberals' charges of 'censorship' seriously when they offer to help us in correcting the massive pro-homosexual book bias in local libraries. Until then, their harangues against 'book banning' are about as accurate as that Saturday Night Live skit making fun of Sarah Palin."
