Top Ten DVD List for March 29, 2016: Kam Williams

This Week’s DVD Releases

This week sees an interesting mix of DVDs. The top watch is Concussion, with Will Smith, who plays a doctor. Next up is The Hateful Eight, the story of a bounty hunter and his prisoner sharing awintry cabin with a bunch of wild characters, brought to us by Quentin Tarantino. Third is the British uncut version of series one of Humans.

Concussion

Concussion is a different football movie, with Will Smith. Rated PG-13, we also see Alec Baldwin, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. It was co-written and directed by Peter Landesman.

Dr. Bennet Omalu, an accomplished pathologist, discovers the truth about brain damage in football players who suffer repeated concussions in the course of normal play. The movie was written by Landesman and Jeanne Marie Laskas, who wrote the article “Game Brain” in GQ magazine.

The Red House

Edward G. Robinson is Pete Morgan. His spinster sister Ellen, played by Judith Anderson, has raised their adopted teen daughter Meg, played by Allene Roberts, on a secluded farm. As a teenager, Meg and her friend Nath, played by Lon McCallister, are doing chores on the farm. The pair decide to explore the forest, despite Pete’s warning about an abandoned red house in the woods.Meg and Nath discover troubling secrets.

CPO Sharkey: The Best of Season Two

Created by Aaron Ruben and starring Don Rickles, Harrison Page, and Peter Isacksen, CPO Sharkey was a 1970’s sitcom.

CPO Sharkey was the perfect opportunity for comic Don Rickles and his acid-tongue. Rickles plays Chief Petty Officer Sharkey, in a California naval recruitment center. Although he is very fond of his men, they are all from different racial and cultural backgrounds, including black, Polish, Hispanic, so he has plenty of insults and putdowns to share around.

The Winter
