Spin-Doctors’ Tribal Dance

“There Is A Voice Inside Of You

That Whispers All Day Long,

‘I Feel That This Is Right For Me,

I Know That This Is Wrong.’

No Teacher, Preacher, Parent, Friend

Or Wise Man Can Decide

What’s Right For You” Just Listen To

The Voice That Speaks Inside.” Shel Silverstein

There is always an abundance of political rhetoric before an election. Spin doctors are practically churning themselves into butter trying to take a president’s negatives and convince a disgruntled public they are actually positives, they just don’t see things clearly.

It seems American voters become sight impaired before elections and require spin doctors to act as guide dogs into the voting booth.

The President’s PR task force is now busily molding the administration’s shabby record into a “top ten” list of why Barack Obama should be reelected, and why Americans should believe what Obama says instead of their own lying eyes.

Barack Obama, however, is not like former presidents. He is in a class by himself.

A political novice, he managed to use a powerful recipe made up of white liberal guilt, Bush exhaustion and his own inexperience to buy an eticket into the White House.

Americans, giddy at the prospect of participating in the election of the first bi-racial president, were instead served a meal more unsettling to the stomach than a three-day-old fish.

Even now as he sets out on his “love me love me, remember how charming I am” tour he refuses to accept what the American people require right now: jobs, guts and honesty.

After forcing an unsavory stimulus package down the nation’s throat and promising great results, the utter failure has left diners with the bitter aftertaste of unemployment, lack of hope for change and a sluggish and historically disastrous economy.

Although his doctored and skewed financial facts and figures paint a frightening portrait, they are far less offensive than the actual truth. Real figures are being disguised as well as the age lines on an aging movie star. The subtitle of his economic policy should be “Botox for your Bucks.”

After incredible work by the Navy Seals and CIA, for which he leaped to take all the credit, his short lived grab at glory at Osama’s death has grown old as Americans awaken to yet another week of bills piling high and job openings shrinking low.

As hard-working Americans spend their day toiling at three jobs to barely fill the loss of one previous paycheck, the thrill of capturing the evil Osama pales before their sheer exhaustion.

His foreign policy has gone undercover due to lack of popular support, and his hard-line tactics toward Benjamin Netanyahu are now being repeated under the cover of the backdoors and hallways of the White House. It appears they created distaste and a horrible recognition of his naA vete and helplessness in the foreign policy arena.

His policy is always, “If the American people say no, just do it behind their back.”

Despite what he attempts to tell us, Americans know better.

Or do we? Can we be hoodwinked twice, or is the time for hope way past and the time for common sense and experience at hand?

If you cut your chest open, you would want a surgeon to stitch the wound.

If you had a craving for home baked bread, you wouldn’t want a turtle to bake it.

If you were in desperate need of a job, you would want a president with business savvy and enormous experience at wealth creation to oversee the economy. Or at least hire qualified people who can!

But what of the charm and charisma some people find in abundance in our President?

I am beginning to think too many Americans are madly in love and unwilling to believe their partner has been regularly cheating and stepping out on them.

They can’t admit they picked the wrong horse and will do anything to stay in the race, although it is fraught with danger, peril and a nag that lacks speed, endurance and breeding.

He lies, some believe…

There are jobs.

That blond you saw me with was my cousin.

This is just a bump in the road back to economic recovery.

I was staying in that hotel because my car broke down on the way home

My policies are working and we are in great shape.

I will never hit you again, but you made me do it.

There is no terrorism or Islamic extremist problem.

Of course I’ll still respect you in the morning.

Hmmm…another four years you say?

Have Americans become so ignorant of what they must do when mistakes have been made?

It is highly apparent to some observers that American politics have an ebb and flow. A political pendulum that once it swings too far to the left or right must move in the opposite direction to get back to the middle; where most moderate people reside.

Barack Obama is the most left-leaning president in our history. He makes Jimmy Carter look like a Tea Party member.

Now history must find a way back to the middle.

If we are realistic about where we stand today, and too many choose not to be, we cannot be happy with our American state of affairs.

We are a joke to our enemies.

We are a huge disappointment to our allies.

We are dollar signs to the Chinese.

We are a weapons arsenal to the Mexican drug lords who have overridden Mexico and its people.

We are in serious financial trouble and expect our grandchildren to bail us out.

We are looking away while the evil nations of the world prepare for a universal clash that, at this rate, is certain to catch us off guard.

We appear weak, silly and foolish to the world.

Ugly American? No more. It’s now, “foolish Americans, where do I go to cash their check?”

We are paying extortion money to countries that are holding nuclear weapons hostage.

Where is Eliot Ness when we need him?

Ugly American is easy to cure, especially with the abundance of plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills.

The cure for foolish remains to be seen.

Our reputation as a savvy and successful nation is under fire and our President is passing out ammo to our enemies.

As the spin-doctors do their tribal dance this campaign season, we need to close our ears to the lies and rhetoric the beltway will offer. Earplugs are cheap, even for a plethora of out of work Americans who are paying too high a price for hope and change.
