Research Is the Heart that Pumps Cure

Israel prides itself on being a ‘start-up nation’. Among the Israelis’ most startup pride is the course of innovative and advanced medicine the country produces. Research is the Heart that Pumps cure.

Israel also prides itself in having the largest medical center in the Middle East, which in fact is also the largest in neighboring Europe. Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer – Israel’s National Medical Facility, is as large as USC, UCLA and Cedar Sinai Medical centers combined.

And the pride is mutual. Sheba prides itself in having many years of cooperation with medical centers in the United States. One such medical center is Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, where ‘Save A Heart‘ (SAHF) Foundation, headed by Cardiologist Yzhar Charuzi, M.D., operates.

Through his Save A Heart Foundation training Yzhar Charuzi, M.D, single handedly, advanced the cardiology field in Israel, USA and the world.

Sheba has many friends, members of Friends of Sheba Medical Center. This week, Friends of Sheba Medical Center gathered at the home of Ruth and Michel Steinberger, in Los Angeles, to hear Professor Michael Shechter, a cardiologist, the Founder and the Director of Clinical Research Unit, the Olga and Lev Leviev Heart Center in Sheba Medical Center, who specializes in heart failure, cardiac rehabilitation, prevention of heart disease, nutrition, internal medicine, blood lipids and aeromedicine. Among his extensive training, between the years 1995-to-1998, Professor Shechter studied at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and received training with SAHF.

As an international expert in the field of magnesium and heart disease, Professor Shechter helps the layman understand the human being’s heart functionalities and dysfunctionalities.

According to Professor Shechter’s most used buzzwords, without the free radical nitric oxide molecule the human being cannot survive. Nitric oxide is a molecular, chemical compound with chemical formula of NO.

As a consequence of its importance in neuroscience, physiology, and immunology, nitric oxide was proclaimed “Molecule of the Year” in 1992. Research into its function led to the 1998 Nobel Prize for discovering the role of nitric oxide as a cardiovascular signaling molecule.

Also, Endothelium, the tissue that forms a single layer of cells lining various organs and cavities of the body, especially the blood vessels, heart, and lymphatic vessels. It is formed from the embryonic mesoderm and provides a wide range of supportive functions giving rise to the body’s connective tissues, blood cells, and blood vessels, as well as muscle, kidney, and many other structures and cell types.

At present, Sheba is on the path to build a premier site, state of the art innovative in cardiology and stroke therapy complex, separated for men and women, which will be the largest cardiovascular research unit in Israel and one of the best the world over. Already today, because research in Israel produces 10 times more than other research centers, the cardiology department at Sheba Medical Center attracts the cooperation of the best pharmaceutical companies giving the center access to the latest and most innovative supporting medicine and equipment.

Money donated to clinical trials is the oxygen of any medical center. However, because the medical research trajectory in Israel is so much more innovative and incentivized – combined with the local Chutzpah character – money contributed yields faster and greater results.

Anyone who wants to can become part of this vital organ to better life for all mankind.
