Different people negotiate in different ways. The Israeli way of negotiating is embedded in a mentality that began in the European Diaspora, and was then transferred to Israel from. It is not a good way of negotiating.
The method is called “the battered wife syndrome method.” Israeli governments past and present have been using it, and it is the method that Shimon Peres uses. This method does not serve us well, just as it does not serve battered wives.
The battered wife always gets the blame for everything, and she accepts it, for fear of more beatings, which always come. Just like the battered wife, Israel always feels guilty, always apologizes, always gives up, and always leaves the door open for others to want more of her. What they always want is an inflated price for defective merchandise.
The battered wife suffers the beatings for many years, yet she never draws the right conclusions, and does not draw the line.
The battered State of Israel believes that the more she gives up or withdraws, the more she will earn in return. It is patently obvious that this is totally wrong! The reality is that the more the battered wife gives up, the more the hatred increases and the longer the beatings go on.
At first, in 1988, Arab youths threw stones; now they throw rocks, Molotov cocktail bottles and they fire Fajr missiles that are threaten Tel-Aviv.
The “Thanks” for this situation goes to Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin, Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak and all those who negotiate with the Arabs as a battered wife.
I would like to see a change of mindset. I would like to hear Israelis reciting to themselves, day after day, “The state of Israel is not a battered wife and Israel is no more a battered nation!”
The Boundaries of Democracy and Freedom of Speech
Recently, Haifa University planned a lecture by convicted Hezbollah terrorist Mohammed Canaana. According to Israel National News, the lecture was canceled for fear of unrest on campus. It seems Israelis do not understand the merits of freedom of speech and democracy.
I often wonder why Israelis try so hard to be holier than the Pope. What is in their genes that makes them smart in science but so backward in civics?
When democracy or freedom of speech is taken to an extreme and out of context, it becomes a state of destruction or anarchy. Would they allow Hitler, Dr. Mengele, Mussolini or Osama Bin Laden to speak at Haifa and Tel-Aviv universities?
The Haifa student union believes in “freedom of speech” and also that “everyone has the right to express his opinion.” Does that extend to someone who sold their country to the enemy or murdered your wife or mother? [Israel National News]
I come to the conclusion that many Israelis do not know what democracy or freedom of speech mean and when their boundaries must end.
I would like to hear Israelis reciting, day after day, that the state of Israel is a free democracy but freedom does not mean it has no boundaries.
