If there was no Israel, the news bureaus would be lacking news about which to report.
If there were no Jews, the world would have no one to hate, or protest and fight against.
So what is it about Israel, with land the size of the state of New Jersey and the nation’s some 15 million total population that irks and occupies the world?
When the subject “Israel” comes up the discussion will be about land and human rights, occupation, borders, aggression, wars and settlements etc.
So what is beneath it all?
I would say it is all about what Israel is.
It is about those perky Jews, the ancient Bible tells us that God chose them as his own children.
It is about those Israelite-Jews who stood at the foot of Mount Sinai and to the Godly music of lights and thunder received the Ten Commandment, the blueprint of civilizations which they have been sharing with those who wish to be civilized.
Is it about envy?
Should such a small nation be so strong intellectually, scientifically, in innovation and creativity, never mind strong militarily?
What Israel Has or Does Not Have
The land area of Israel has no natural mineral resources. As of recent years Israel is considered to be rich in fossil gas in its marine areas, specifically within the offshore waters of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The discoveries of natural gas, including the ‘Leviathan’, ‘Tamar,’ discovered in 2009 and 2010, and ‘Karish’ fields, transformed Israel from a net natural gas importer to a potential exporter. The most recent discovery, Katlan, was officially recognized by the Israeli Energy Ministry in May 2023
The gas fields contain very large quantities of natural gas and have transformed Israel’s energy landscape and give the country energy security.
Israel’s Foes
The small country with a diverse population of Israeli Jews, Israeli Arab-Muslims and Christians, Israeli Druze and Maronites is surrounded by nearby enemies that seek its destruction. These enemies, whether terror organizations or states, continue the goal of many predecessor foes that sought to destroy the Jewish commonwealth in the land of Israel from time immemorial.
The dislike for Israel extends way beyond its border to faraway lands.
The Jewish state is discriminated against by the United Nations organization (UN) and countries like South Africa and some Europeans. It is condemned, slandered, and attacked by people who call themselves celebrities, politicians, organizations and business. Many call to boycott, divest, and sanction (BDS) Israel.
Going Above and Beyond
Yet, Israel still moves forward and thrives.
It constantly improves its military, intelligence and security. It takes pride in its inventions in the technology, medical and agriculture fields to name a few.
Israel, like magic, has turned the torrid desert, 60% of the land, into productive farmland.
Due to lack of water Israel reuses nearly 90% of its wastewater, making it a global leader in water recycling. Furthermore, in Israel, desalination provides approximately 75% of the country’s drinking water. This has been a significant shift. When previously Israel relied heavily on natural water sources, like the Sea of Galilee, the country now has several large-scale desalination plants, with the Sorek plant being one of the largest in the world.
As for the latest of creating water innovation, there are Israeli companies innovating in the field of atmospheric water generation, creating devices that extract drinking water from the air, even in arid regions. This technology addresses global water scarcity challenges by providing a sustainable and independent source of water. In many remote villages in Africa, where the water sources are at a disadvantageous distance, installing such devices in the village is simply a change in living conditions.
Intermittent Wars From 1948-Ongoing
Though the state of Israel is only 77 years-old, right through its years of existence and against all odds, it has been fighting and surviving wars it never started. It always was the few against the multitude, David against Goliath.
In the international schools of warfare they learn about the 1967 Six Day War; the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and now they will add a class about the Swords of Iron War against Hamas and the Rising Lion Operation against Iran.
Nothing Makes Sense
When the world watches and hears what is taking place in Israel it shakes its head with disbelief, as if people cannot make sense of it. Perhaps the answer is with, “God Acts In His Own Mysterious Ways.”
When the world sees little Israel’s constant zenith against all odds they turn to blame, outlandish reasoning and excuses.
People blame the Jews, half of this nation is Israeli-Jews, for controlling the world.
People blame AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobbying group in the United States, for twisting the minds of the American government’s members in favor of Israel.
Though the Land of Israel is the Jewish people’s ancestral land, Israel is blamed as a colonizing and oppressive power.
There is always something the blame gang finds to use in order to put down and sully the state of Israel and demonize the Jews.
But the truth is that the Jews who have been greatly wronged by the world, at least for the past 2025 years, have earned a righteous spot in God’s heart.
And while performing unbreakable will, Israel adhering to the blueprint of civilization, the Ten Commandments, adheres to morality, must be commended.
Irrational Survival
And there is no historical precedent for Jews surviving the Babylonian and Roman exile of Jews from their land to foreign lands, the Crusaders murderous invasion of the land, the Spanish Inquisition, the pogroms in Russian lands, but they did. They picked up where the rope ended and started again.
While there is no rational way to explain the path from 1930s-1940s Nazi concentration camps and gas chambers, in which 6 million Jews were murdered, to Israel becoming a global power of influence, in many respects, reality speaks loud.
Let’s Be Honest
As far as the world is concerned, the Jewish people should have disappeared a long time ago. We cannot say they did not try to make it happen on many occasions.
Much of Jewish history is about enslavement, exile, discrimination as a minority and the Holocaust. All should have served the purpose of ending the Jewish nation.
But the Jews didn’t vanish. They ended their exile and arrived from many lands to their 3rd commonwealth homeland, the modern State of Israel in the Land of Israel. They picked up from where ancient history in the land stopped to rebuild it so that history in the land can continue.
Today, in Israel they speak Hebrew, the revived and modernized ancient biblical language; they also strengthened Jewish identity of pride, ethos and tradition.
Simply said, in Israel they bring the biblical stories to life; ancient history comes alive in that land.
Israel Is The Headlines
Unless you believe in a myth, in many respects Israel doesn’t make sense.
The state thrives, it produces Nobel Prizes in an amazing ratio to its population count and yet, it continues to be the core of all too often negative news material.
What the world cannot grasp is that for Jews the sanctity of life trumps all else.
Perhaps the God of the Jews, the One Who guided them to the Promised Land, the One Jesus worshipped, is no myth after all.
Perhaps the Jewish people, the Judea boys, are testimonial evidence to the world’s misguided viewpoint.
Therefore The Vex
Jews have been the world’s scapegoat from time immemorial. Lies and deceptions serve purposed animosity well.
That Jews survived all the attempts to annihilate them is of great annoyance to those of ill intent.
It is difficult for an envious, antagonistic world to admit that Israel’s footprint in world affairs is impressive.
So they deny, smear and rage against it.
Could it be that Israel’s survival has something to do with a divine intervention? With divine providence?
Could it be that the world is witnessing the resumption of eternity that took a hiatus?
We can debate if it is God Who keeps His promises to his children or it is the extraordinary will of the Jewish people to keep on serving His will. No matter what, the miraculous survival of the Jewish people, against all odds, and their return to their ancient homeland to revive it in such an impressive way, is a history in the making that serves the world well.
The next chapter in history is currently being written.
