Crossfire War – TEHRAN WATCH – West Asia Theatre: Tehran has al-Qaeda Declare UN Force in Lebanon “Enemies of Islam” – States “New Events” (Attacks) – Bases in Gulf – Israel
Night Watch: DUBAI – For the first time Tehran has designated the European forces that are part of the UN force in Lebanon as an “enemy of Islam.” That is not surprising since one of the first targets in Iraq after Saddam’s removal in 2003 was the UN office in Baghdad and timed to kill the UN representative. Reuters reports that al-Qaeda’s no. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri has just released a video where he makes that declaration. Tehran also had him warn of “new events are on the way” and indicated Western bases in the Persian Gulf will be attacked causing “economic doom” in the West. Israel is also mentioned as being attacked again. [ASHARQALAWSAT]
Tehran had always planned a second round of fighting in the region which is why there has been so much news on the re-supplying of Hezbollah despite the UN ban on arms smuggling. The ban was never taken seriously by Beirut-Damascus-Tehran or Hezbollah and they are constantly violating it. In the meantime none of the European governments sending units to Lebanon ever took the ban seriously either which is why they never intended to prevent Hezbollah’s re-arming and have actually said so publicly. But Tehran does not want Europe there in any way, shape or form.
Tehran also had Zawahiri complain about Egypt. “Israel has been able to dominate Lebanon and Gaza only because Egypt has been removed from the conflict with Israel.” As crossfirewar.com has stated, Tehran will help Egyptians remove President Hosni Mubarak who has never supported Islamic radicalism since they assassinated his predecessor Anwar Sadat in October 1981. The next round of fighting will have more impact on Egypt than on Israel.
I suspect that according to Tehran’s timetable, the “new events” will begin shortly after Iran completes its five week wargames next week. Terror attacks, not against Israel but in the Sinai against Egypt, could begin it while at the same time Hezbollah-Hamas become active again forcing Israel to respond but this time Damascus-Tehran enter the conflict. Then attacks against the European forces in Lebanon will then follow. Washington would of course express its outrage which would set the stage for attacks against U. S. bases in the Persian Gulf, setting off the series of increases in the price of a barrel of crude oil and economic crisis in the West.
Moscow will quickly come to Europe’s assistance by breaking off all negotiations with Tehran on continuing to develop and expand Iran’s nuclear industry. That will prepare the way for Moscow to enter the war on a much larger scale than the current fighting in the North Caucasus.
