Crossfire War – TEHRAN WATCH – Middle East Theatre: Tehran – Damascus – Beirut/Jerusalem; Highest Echelon of Syria’s Baath Party Declares Support for Hezbollah – Lebanon – Preparation for War Declaration
Night Watch: DAMASCUS – Reuters reports that the highest level of Syria’s Baath party leadership has issued this comminique in support of Lebanon and Hezbollah, “The Syrian people are ready to extend full support to the Lebanese people and their heroic resistance to remain steadfast and confront the barbaric Israeli aggression and its crimes.” [SWISSINFO]
The Baath party has been the governing body in Damascus since 1963 and the communique was issued by the party’s National Command. It added that Israel and the United States “are trying to wipe out Arab resistance in every land under occupation.” That of course incorporates the U. S. led occupation in Iraq and justifies Syria’s support for Islamic units attacking it. The National Command also stated that Syria President Bashar al-Assad was aware of the seriousness of the region’s situation.
This is in reality a declaration of war that can only be made more official by a formal declaration by the government after military preparations are complete. Israel may make that decision for them by attacking Syria’s preparation before they are fully mobilized. Israel may also attack Iranian units deploying in Syria near the Golan Heights. According to Tehran’s script Iran is to follow up with its own declaration and message of support for Damacus in its support of Hezbollah-Lebanon.
