Tehran – The regional war this year will increase as Palestinian militant units continue their Qassam rocket and mortar fire into Israel, intended to force Jerusalem into making a large invasion and occupation of the Gaza Strip, something Israel is in the process of completing preparations for. Tehran has re-armed Hezbollah from last year’s war and with the assistance of Damascus and Lebanon’s military, which now fully supports Tehran-Damascus because of the three month fighting in north Lebanon at the Palestinian refugee camp city Nahr al-Bared outside Tripoli from late May – August. In order to prepare Iran’s population to support the Palestinian attacks, and Tehran sending Iranian troops to enter the conflict, Tehran has had Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lead hate Israel rallies at Tehran University. Other hate Israel demonstrations were conducted around the country. [XINHUA]

Algiers – Reuters is reporting French nationals have begun to leave Algiers. Marc Boutellier, head of the French Economic Mission in Algiers, has said it is in response to the deteriorating security situation in the country. The Algerian paper El Khabar has also reported this. Fabienne de Bredisson, spokesperson for the French company Michelin stated, “It’s not specific to Michelin. Many French nationals have been repatriated. But there have been no threats and none of our employees have been repatriated.” reported Nov. 20, 2006 Tehran established an Al-Qaeda branch of North Africa and recently Iran had the no. 2 video presenter Ayman al Zawahiri make a threat to Westerners, especially Spanish-French citizens living in North Africa, that the region should be “cleansed” of them. Srinagar – KONS reports there has been no real reduction in the fighting in Kashmir across the Line of Control (LoC) the heavily contested boundary between Pakistan/India drawn in 1972 one year after their third war since independence 1947, a war Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf is a veteran of and also the war in 1965. This latest action began Friday night and continued into Saturday morning. Even now, there are constant reports of intermittent firing and Indian units conducting searches in forested areas. All the engagements now revolve around infiltration attempts by Islamic units from either Pakistan’s part of Kashmir or from Pakistan itself. Security forces challenge the militants, and gun battles lasting for at least several hours begin. Reports are now of Islamic groups inflicting heavier casualties on Indian units by firing what are described as “sophisticated weapons”, more advanced equipment than they ever had before. Islamic militants are of course also killed but not that many yet they can engage for several hours. [KONS]

LoC – Fayaz Wani of NewsBlaze reports in the past 72 hours 19 militants have been killed and four Indian soldiers with the latest encounter in the Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir. There has also been fighting in the Drangyari forest at Chowkibal Kupwara and Lawseer, Dangiwach area at Rufiabad. [NEWSBLAZE]

Kosovska Mitrovica – Reactions are now coming in to the video aired on Kosovo public television of a dozen armed men in black uniforms and ski masks, members of the Albanian National Army (ANA). Understandably most people in the area realize any action would kill any chances of a negotiated settlement but most Albanian political parties and the Serbian government in Belgrade never had much faith in a negotiated settlement to begin with and Belgrade has even given the impression without the presence of Brussels, headquarters of both the European Union (EU) and NATO, an agreement with the Albanian community in Kosovo would be possible. B92 reports Andrej Milic, a spokesperson for the Serbian militia group Guard of the Czar Lazar stated, “We will ask NATO to dismantle the terrorist Albanian National Army which is using Albanian media to directly threaten Serbs.” Milic added, as a warning to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and NATO-Kosovo Force (KFOR), the Guards “will not allow the Serb flags and insignia to be taken from them” as was the case in June Vidovdan ceremonies in Kosovo. [B92]

However, according to the Deputy Chief of UNMIK Steven Schook there is no ANA to dismantle. “I personally doubt the authenticity of that footage.”

Lhasa – Retired India Brigadier Rahul Bhonlse, the director of the international security website, based in Delhi, has reported China has constructed air bases near Lhasa, Tibet and in South China. This was reported on page 17 of his South Asia-Security Trends, South Asia NSCAN (daily news scan) 05 Oct. 2007. The bases are obviously to be used when Beijing joins the current war between Pakistan/India, a war that actually began in November 1989 with the Islamic uprising in the Muslim majority province of Kashmir. November last year China Ambassador to India stated northeast India is Chinese territory, the province of Arunachal Pradesh on the Sino-India border where China invaded India in 1962 for one month in October. The fighting extended south into Assam state forcing India to fire its Defense Minister. Delhi is currently strenghtening its defenses there. [SECURITYRISKS]
