The citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis today celebrated their 28 years of independence.
The country has two main islands called the Saint Kitts and Nevis. The islands are of volcanic origin with large central peaks covered in tropical rainforest. The majority of the population on both islands lives closer to the sea, according to wikipedia.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
“The United States and Saint Kitts and Nevis have worked together on many issues of mutual importance. Together we are helping to advance democracy, protect human rights, and expand economic opportunities for more people.” -Ms. Clinton
She stressed that their partnership through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative is enhancing the security and prosperity of the region, and we appreciate the continued leadership Saint Kitts and Nevis has shown in our common efforts to promote citizen safety throughout the Caribbean.
She said as Saint Kitts and Nevis leads CARICOM into the next year, both countries are looking forward to deepening their partnership on their shared goals to promote regional security and stability, widen opportunity and prosperity, and strengthen democratic governance and the rule of law across the region.
