Barbados Celebrates Its Independence Day

The citizens of Barbados today celebrated their 45th anniversary of independence.

Barbados is the 51st richest country in the world in terms of GDP. It has a well-developed mixed economy, and a moderately high standard of living, according to Wikipedia.

US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Barbados.

She stressed that the United States and Barbados have shared a vibrant relationship since the United States recognized Barbados’ independence in 1966 and on the same day opened our Bridgetown Embassy. She said the partnership between the two countries is strengthened every day as they work together to encourage economic development, curb the effects of climate change, promote greater security and strengthen gender equality.

She highlighted that through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, the Partnership Framework for HIV and AIDS, and their common efforts to promote entrepreneurship and economic opportunity, both countries are building a brighter future for both our countries.

Barbados is classified as being in its 66 top High income economies of the world, according to the World Bank.
