IPCDA Strongly Condemns Fourth Deadly Attack on Camp Liberty

Urgent Statement by IPCDA on Fourth Deadly Attack against Camp Liberty

The International Parliamentary Campaign in Defence of Camps Ashraf and Liberty condemns today’s deplorable terrorist attack on the defenceless residents of Camp Liberty where at least 3 people were killed and at least more than 50 injured.

It is shameful that at a time when the US and British governments and the United Nations are duty bound to protect these civilians a further murderous attack has taken place.

Unfortunately this is not the first time this Committee has had to condemn a missile attack on this group of Iranians. After each and every attack we have written to the British government and the UN to demand that the residents are protected from such vicious attacks, which have to date left over 100 killed and many more wounded.

The International Parliamentary Campaign in Defence of Ashraf and Liberty has repeatedly warned the UN that Camp Liberty does not provide the level of security promised to the residents. The Iraqi authorities will continue to do the bidding of the Iranian regime by massacring this group of Iranians until such time as the British government and its American partners decide to abide by their international obligations to protect the residents.

We therefore call upon the United Nations to protect residents of camp Liberty with a force of UN Blue helmets.

Moreover, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) must without delay recognise the status of the residents and grant them asylum in safe third party nations in keeping with the promises already made. immediate recognition must now insure that group refugee status, covers all the residents of the camp.

Further the British and US governments as coalition partners in the war in Iraq have a duty to condemn this attack, ensure the residents are protected from further attack with a UN Blue Helmet force and speed up their transfer to safe third party states.

The perpetrators of this crime, Nouri Al-Maliki the Iraqi Prime Minister and the Iranian regime which supports him must be brought to justice in the International Criminal Court.

Brian Binley MP, President, The International Parliamentary Campaign in Defence of Camps Ashraf and Liberty.
