Sudan to Host Kagame Club Cup in June

The council of east and central Africa football associations (CECAFA) revealed in a press statement on Tuesday that Sudan won to host this year’s Kagame Club cup which is slated for June 21st-July 5th this year.

“CECAFA wishes to take this opportunity to announce that the 2011 CECAFA/ Kagame club cup will be held in Sudan” CECAFA secretary General Nicholas Musonye said in a press statement on Tuesday.

He said that CECEFA met with Sudan football Association and the sponsors Elmarreikh group in Khartoum last week and put the program of staging this event in Sudan in motion.

“Elmarreikh group who sponsored the colorful Kagame club cup in 2009 have committed to sponsoring the event in totally, they have assured CECAFA that they will throw a better champion than they did in 2009” Musonye said adding that the group president Jamal Alwaly acknowledged that Kagame club cup is one of the most celebrated club competitions in Africa and should be given its rightful place in the calendar of CECAFA.

In this regard the secretary General said that the sponsors pledged to undertake the following:

-Cover air tickets for all participating teams, CECAFA officials and referees

In 2009 the sponsorship package went beyond US 800,000 (Kshs 64 million). It is anticipated that with more than 14 teams for the 2011 championship the budget will shoot to US one million (Kshs 84 million).

CECAFA said it will invite an Egyptian team as guests, while the sponsor has agreed to add US 40,000 to president Kagame’s donation of US 60,000 for total prize money US 100,000 (Kshs 8.4 million) to be shared among the top three teams in the competition.
