Militant Leader Threatens That Insurgency in Somalia Could Take Years

Militant leader threatens that insurgency in Somalia could take years.

The leader of the rebel Islamist group in Somalia Hezbal Islam Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys vowed that wars in the horn of African country could take years.

The rebel chief told a press conference in Mogadishu Tuesday that holy war will continue in Somalia until they have confirmed the withdrawal of African union peace keeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the implementation of Sharia law in the whole country.

“We will wage the Jihad until our last person is alive, the war can stop only when the mercenary troops of AU are forced to leave our land” stated Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys who is also the founder of Al Itihad Al Islam, a terrorist group that fought in eastern Ethiopia in 1990s.

“No, we will never negotiate with them as long as AMISOM mercenaries are in our country” replied the Islamist leader who was asked about the possibility of negotiations between his group and Somali government.

He called on the governments of Uganda and Burundi to pull their troops out of Somalia and let Somalis themselves solve their differences. “I tell the Ugandan and Burundian mothers to take their boys out of Somalia before they are all killed” the Islamist chief threatened.

He denounced the recent power-sharing pact between Somali government and the none-militant Islamists Ahlu Sunna wal Jama’a that was signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
