Earlier in the year, Nicolas Ghesquiere debuted a line of collectible handbags during his Cruise 2019 presentation for Louis Vuitton. The handbags were designed in collaboration with Grace Coddington, former Vogue creative director and fashion figure.
The capsule collection, which includes leather goods, apparel, footwear and handbags, will hit shelves this month.
Anyone familiar with Coddington would know that she is fond of cats. Her love for felines comes through in her collection of Louis Vuitton handbags. The items feature the Louis Vuitton monogram adorned with illustrations created by Grace. These illustrations feature her cats, Blanket and Pumpkin, as well as Ghesquiere ‘s dog Leon.
The collection includes classic handbag styles, like the Neverfull and the Speedy. It also includes the City Steamer and Petite Malle. Other leather goods are included in Grace’s collection, including boots, sneakers, sandals and ready-to-wear pieces.
A few of the pieces, which are all-black in color, are only available in New York. There are also tan leather bags that come without the LV logo – for cat lovers who aren’t logo lovers.
To celebrate the partnership, Louis Vuitton opened a popup shop in New York City that featured exclusive designs, like ready-to-wear pajamas and footwear. The popup shop will be open from October 26 through November 12.
Prices for the pieces range from 310 pounds (USD$405) to 3700 pounds (USD$4,836)
This isn’t the first time Grace Coddington has collaborated with a major brand. The former model worked on a collaborative fragrance for Comme des Garcons called “Grace by Grace Coddington,” which was released in 2016.
Louis Vuitton has also collaborated with other big names in fashion, including Stephen Sprouse, Jeff Koons and Yayoi Kusama.
Grace Coddington was a successful model in the 1960s, but her career was cut short after a car accident at the age of 26. She then joined Vogue as a Junior Editor and worked her way up to Senior Fashion Editor in 1976. After a brief stint Design Director at Calvin Klein, Coddington returned to the magazine upon the request of Anna Wintour. She remained with the magazine until 2016.
Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Grace Coddington comes as the brand is launching a new line of slippers. The collection includes both men’s and women’s slippers.
Men can choose between a closed-back slipper made of dense velvet, or a hotel-style slipper made from satin with a florid script across the bridge of the foot.
For women, there’s a brushed wool, closed-back slipper that covers the entire foot. There’s also a marabou feature mule slipper that’s quilted on the inside for comfort and glamour.
