World Cup: Suarez Gives Uruguay 2-1 Win And Passage To Next Round

Uruguay become the first team to qualify for the Quarter Finals of the South African World Cup after a close 2-1 victory over South Korea this afternoon.

Uruguay qualified at the top of a tough Group which held the host nation South Africa, France – who had a shameful tournament – and Mexico. The top spot saved them from a game against Argentina (who Mexico will play tomorrow) and put South Korea in their firing line.

Suarez scored with only eight minutes gone for Uruguay in this game, just a couple of minutes after South Korea hit the post. The goal came against the run of play and was set up by fellow striker Forlan whose whipped cross slipped past the ‘keeper and fell to Suarez at the back post.

The goal settled Uruguay who looked comfortable with the lead. They created more chances to extend that lead but couldn’t make use of a sloppy South Korea defense and with just over twenty minutes left the South Koreans equalized, with Chung-Yong nodding in.

Suarez popped up to score again ten minutes later, giving his team the winning goal with a cracking shot which thudded in off the post. A great way to win a crucial game and send the South American team into the Quarter Final.

It will be a busy weekend for knockout football so be sure to keep an eye on Newsblaze to catch the results. USA play tonight where they will be hoping for a result against Ghana, whilst tomorrow England play Germany and Argentina face off against Mexico. It’s a tough day to call but personally I will be going for an England/Draw double (for ninety minutes), a result which has a potential return of 106 Pounds for a 10 Pound bet.
