World Cup: Serbia 1-0 Germany – Germans Miss Penalty And See Red

One of the top performers in the first games played against one of the biggest under-performers today, as Germany played Serbia.

I left this game alone in my Newsblaze predictions and it seems I was right to do so as this was a game – much like Greece/Nigeria – that was decided on refereeing decisions.

Klose saw red for Germany when he received a weak second yellow card in the second half. Germany had been the better of he sides until then but just two minutes later Serbia exploded into action and Jovanovic tapped in to put them in front.

Germany were gifted a chance to get back in front with a penalty, following a ridiculous handball in the area, but it proved not to be Germany’s day when Podolski missed from the spot. It was Germany’s first missed penalty in the World Cup since 1982, a shocking miss but one that typified Germany’s day.

They had countless chances to equalize with Podolski on the end of most of them, but Serbia walked away with the victory here.

Ghana, Serbia and Germany now top the group with 3 points and Australia still stand a chance of qualifying after this shock result. This Group is now wide open.

The USA and England are both due to play later today and I quite fancy them both to win for a tasty double. Get your money on that (or check out the Newsblaze predictions for more).
