Wins For Portsmouth, Birmingham, Manchester City And Bolton.

A summary of the four early Saturday Premiership games.

Five Premiership games were played today, and although we were short ten teams (most of which play tomorrow) we certainly weren’t short of drama.

As detailed in a previous article the day started with a shock at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea were thumped 2-4 by Manchester City. Chelsea took the lead thanks to Frank Lampard but they then watched as both Tevez and Bellamy grabbed a brace each. Belletti and Ballack also saw red in this period as The Blues ended on a minor high with Lampard bagging a penalty.

As written in my Weekend Premiership Predictions the match between Birmingham and Wigan was a hard fought one which was settled with a single goal from Birmingham. Mcfadden converted a penalty to score the only goal of the game and gift Birmingham three points and another clean sheet.

At The Reebok Bolton also won 1-0 at home to Wolves with a goal on the stroke of half time. Zat Knight was the surprise scorer after striking home a chance which was gifted to him following some great play by Lee.

One thing that I certainly didn’t predict was the game at Turf Moor. Burnley were at home to Portsmouth who have been having a nightmare off the pitch recently and have just been docked nine points. Despite this, bottom of the league Portsmouth managed to shock Burnley by winning 2-1. Piquionne opened the scoring early for the away side but they were quickly pegged back when Paterson flicked over James to equalize on the half hour.

In the second half Portsmouth were given two penalties, O’Hara failed to convert the first one so when they were given the second twenty minutes later, Yerbda took over the duties and calmly gave Pompy the lead. Burnley fought back to try to get themselves back in the game but Portsmouth kept them out and took the three points.

Stoke and Arsenal are due to kickoff in half an hour as I write this, a report will follow after the game.
