Tottenham Take Fourth Whilst Villa Struggle Against Manchester City

A roundup of the days Premiership action.

The race for fourth heated up in the Premiership today with all the major contenders in action.

At The City of Manchester Stadium Man City hosted Aston Villa in a decisive clash and the home side came out on top after an iffy start. Carew opened the scoring for Villa who happily took the lead against the run of play with just sixteen minutes gone; but City hit back with two goals in two minutes when Tevez converted a penalty before Adebayor took advantage of a great performance from Johnson by latching onto one of his passes and beating Friedel from six yards, moving City into a 2-1 lead at the interval. The game was open for the taking in the second half and it was City who took it, finishing Villa off with a Bellamy strike.

That result put Aston Villa out of the running for fourth but Tottenham were still there and they collected another win today to make sure they remained there. A 1-0 victory at home to Bolton was all it took for Spurs who had an amazing Huddlestone strike to thank for their three points.

Elsewhere, relegated Burnley slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Birmingham, bottom club Portsmouth pulled off another good result with a 3-1 win against Wolves; and Stoke held Everton to a 0-0 draw.

There are some big games up tomorrow with all the big hitters coming out to play. It should be an exciting Sunday of football.
