HOLIDAY HITS: A Fine Night of New York Boxing

Jaffa Ballogou & Daniel Judah

On Dec. 4, 2008, rain, cold and gridlock may deter ice skaters and the Rockefeller Center Crowd, but at the Roseland Ballroom, boxing fans caught a night of solid boxing and excellent decisions by the judges.

Lightweights Jorge Luis Teron and Aldo Valtierra gave spectators the best bout of the evening. Both fighters kept up their determination and heart scoring heavily the entire 10 rounds. Teron displayed lightning speed, but often got caught with his hands down by a continuously pressing and counter punching opponent that won Valtierra a Majority Decision.

Robert Samadei

Featherweight Robert Samadei also took a Majority Decision over Soumana Abdoulaye who hung tough the entire 4 round bout after hitting the mat in round 1 from a left straight, left hook and a hard right.

A 6 round slug-fest crowd-pleaser between Super Featherweights Eddie Hyland and Gustavo Dailey with an extraordinary number of uppercuts and pounding body punches to the ribs by both fighters resulted in a Unanimous Decision win for Hyland.

Will Rosinsky

Light Heavyweight Daniel Judah, scoring better overall with superior speed, won him a 12 round Unanimous Decision and the IBF International Championship over Jaffa Ballogou.

Middleweight George Walton came back from a knockdown in the first round to win a 6 round Unanimous Decision over Clarence Taylor.

With jeers and even some tears from the crowd, but the correct call from the judges, Heavyweight Nagy Aguilera (trying to get even for a late punch), was disqualified for an intentional head-butt 2:40 into the second round of a scheduled 8 rounds against Marcellus Brown.
