Fists Fly: As The Sweet Science Comes to The Paramount

On Sept. 20th, JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING presented “Rocken’ Fights 36” at The Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY. The bout card gave new meaning to Friday after-work relaxation. The crowd was wild. The drinks were cold. The crowd saw the fists fly and the fighting was hot.

The Results:

The main event started with an 8-count knockdown (Photo), which pretty much summed up the match with James being disproportionately faster and easily scoring better than Shawnee until the referee stopped the bout in the 5th round for a James win.

JUNIOR “BOMBITA” ALMONTE vs. ERNESTO GARZA III Bantamweight 8-round

This was a great bout with heavy trading and often even exchanges to both body and head. In general, a close match with Garza more in control, landing many body blows versus Almonte trying to land a big uppercut. Unfortunately, after Garza clearly “slipped” in the 4th round, the referee called an 8-count knockdown, which not only changed the momentum of the fight, but resulted in a unanimous decision for Almonte.

Emmanuel Etienne vs. Charles Johnson Cruiserweight 4-round

Etienne controlled the bout from the start with a lot of left jabs scoring better in general for the first two rounds. Johnson scored some head and body shots of his own, but in the 3rd round Etienne connected with a right uppercut and the referee stopped the match, a TKO win for Etienne.

Alex Vargus vs. Deo Kizito Welterweight 4-round

Vargas being faster than Kitzito, and getting inside of his taller opponent, seemed to score 2 to 1 to the body and head throughout the 4-rounds for a unanimous decision.
