Porto hosted Arsenal for the second day of Champions League Knockout football, whilst Bayern Munich were up against Fiorentina.
Arsenal were praying for a good result in the opening away leg but their heavy hit injury team was set for a struggle. Fabianski was playing his part in goal for the injured Almunia and the Polish shot-stopper threatened to steal the show for all the wrong reasons. He tried to stop a miss-hit cross from Varela with just ten minutes gone but ended up pushing the ball into his own net as Porto went 1-0 up.
On seventeen minutes Sol Campbell headed in from a corner to square things up for Arsenal and give them a vital away goal. Despite this Fabianski did steal the show when giving Porto a free-kick from a pass-back, before casually walking away from the ball whilst Porto quickly took the free-kick and scored, with Falcao the one to tap it in. A nightmare double for Fabianski.
Arsenal couldn’t find a goal despite a lot of pressure and will now invite Porto to the Emirates stadium for what will be a tough second leg.
In the other Champions League game tonight Fiorentina were up against it with a tough Bayern Munich side on show.
Robben opened the scoring for Bayern with a penalty in first half stoppage time, sending the ‘keeper the wrong way and giving them something positive to reflect on at the break. Five minutes after the break though Bayern Munich looked lost and failed to handle a Fiorentina corner, allowing Kroldrup to nip in and equalize.
Gobbi was sent off with just over twenty-five minutes left and Bayern Munich used this advantage to grab the winner with just a minute of normal time to play. Klose looked to be offside when the ball was played, but his headed goal counted and gave them a 2-1 victory. With the scores so slim Fiorentina will fancy their chances in the away leg.
