In the midst of our two party systems there is a conflict. One faction advocates greater controls by the federal government, with power, by centralizing the government and gain greater powers and controls over the people. The other idea is to urge a return to the practices they believe to be in harmony with the framers intent for the Constitution.
It may not be a visible war but in my eyes it has turned into a war of words. It has become a very vicious attack by both factions upon the other with no quarter. Let’s beat the other Party seems to be the war cry. One government of the people by the people and for the people is not the purpose of either faction. Maybe we need someone to ride herd over both parties.
Some type of device to stifle the factions who are abusing authority and government and return to good honest government.
It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices should be necessary to control the abuse of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature. “If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the greater difficulty lies in this, you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”
Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison in support of the adoption of the Constitution of the United States of America advocated the following thoughts. De Tocqueville one of the greatest political scientists of the 17 century said:
“Despotism may govern without faith, but liberty cannot…Religion is much more necessary in a republic…than in the monarchy… it is more needed in democratic republics than any others. How is it possible that a society should escape destruction if the moral tie is not strengthened in proportion as the political tie is relaxed? And what can be done with a people who are their own masters if they are not submissive to Deity.”
Our constitution was framed to be a government of the people by the people and for the people. What has happened over these two hundred plus years is the age old problem that every society faces in time. Men when obtain authority it goes to their heads and they begin to exercise the power of government to gain dominion over others.
How can a government develop the ability to govern itself? The people who elect their government are the key to government.
We the people must get our act together before we expect government to control itself. This is a free society and not who is right or who is wrong. We live together work together and now we must worship together. Our laws were written based upon God’s law not mans. Loving one’s country is not a sin. How can He bless our government when we deliberately break his law, the law that governs all men; when a President stands forth and lies to the people? How can we as a society ignore the misuse of government?
Me, I’m going to church Sunday and change my ways. I’m going to ask the Lord to help us straighten out this mess called Washington. Ask Him to bless our government with honest men and women with good morals and love of God and country. Then when it is time to vote I will vote for those people who have the qualities I expect in myself and in my leaders.
God Bless America.
