Former Texas politician Beto O’Rourke has announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for president. He enters a field of candidates that now seems like a who’s who of the far-left including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kristen Gillibrand.

Beto O’Rourke was the loser of the 2018 senate election to Republican Ted Cruz and brings a colorful past to his presidential campaign. That includes time spent in a punk band and membership in an early hacker collective called the ‘Cult of the Dead Cow.’

For a party that is obsessed with ‘inclusiveness,’ the very white O’Rourke presents a dichotomy for the politically correct far-left. The young Beto grew up in privileged surroundings which defies the current mantra of the ‘new’ Democratic hopefuls.

He is the 13th Democrat to enter the race.

With the national spotlight now shining on the arm-waving ‘Kennedyish’ young man, he will be forced to explain a somewhat bizarre past.

For instance, his writings include his own chosen alias, “Psychedelic Warlord” where he describes some women as “Sluts” for having “violent boyfriends,” and suggesting ways to deal with this that include informing “Nazi Skins in your area” that they had “AIDS.”

The “Psychedelic Warlord” also wrote about a piece from the perspective of a narrator. That ‘person’ confronts a feeling of boredom and aimlessness that includes a killing spree by hitting children with a car. The piece, dated 1988, described the murders as an “act of love” provoking a feeling that was “simply ecstasy.”

“I had killed nearly 38 people by the time of my twenty-third birthday, and each one was more fulfilling than the last,” Psychedelic Warlord wrote.

The El Paso Times reported O’Rourke has acknowledged his membership in the ‘Cult of the Dead Cow,’ but O’Rourke “did not say whether he regrets his involvement.” As Beto dismissed it, “It was something that I was a part of when I was a teenager in El Paso a long, long time ago.”

Fuel For Negative Campaigns

Nevertheless, in a time of ultra-full disclosure, this sort of information must rattle many high-level Democratic lawmakers thinking about opposition TV commercials down the line in the election cycle. The various writings are dated between 1987 and 1989 when he was a mere 18-years-old, but it is still red meat should O’Rourke’s campaign catch fire.

The avalanche of media scrutiny is bound to widen in the ensuing months. Thus far Americans have been subjected to videos of O’Rourke’s punk past, his penchant for skateboarding and getting his teeth cleaned.

O’Rourke has stated his presidential campaign will be a focus on climate change, education, gun laws, health care and immigration. It appears none of that will be as important to potential voters as explaining away the writings of his youth.

Beto O’Rourke failed miserably in his presidential bid. He crashed and burned on his own, with no help from Republicans. They saved money by not needing to put any effort into attacking him or his campaign.

Beto O’Rourke was a congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. He represented the 16th district of Texas. In 2018, Beto tried to unseat Republican Senator Ted Cruz. He failed by a narrow margin but his vote count was historic because he got the most votes ever won by a Democrat.

It is unknown whether his good showing was due to fraud or the fact that hundreds of thousands of Democrats have moved to Texas. It would be a real irony if democrats escaped from their failing states to again for for controlling democrats in their new home.

Beto announced his 2020 presidential run in March 2019, but had weak showing in the debates. He dropped out of the race 8 months later. He failed to raise enough support or money to continue in November.

Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke was born 26 September, 1972, in El Paso, Texas. He has two younger sisters, Charlotte and Erin. His father Pat was a local Democratic politician who served on municipal boards, commissions and as a county judge.
