United States Lifts Federal Ban on Horse Meat

Tulsa OK: Soon you could see horse meat being sold in your local grocery store. A 5 year federal ban on the butchering and consumption of horse meat has been lifted.

Congress lifted the ban in a spending bill President Barack Obama signed into law Nov. 18 to keep the government afloat until mid-December. It does not include any funding for horse meat inspections, which could cost us taxpayers millions.

U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., is trying to permanently ban horse slaughter; he rightfully believes it to be inhuman.

“I am committed to doing everything in my power to prevent the resumption of horse slaughter and will force Congress to debate this important policy in an open, democratic manner at every opportunity,” he said in a statement.

Horses are not a farm animal but a pet to millions.

For me becoming a vegetarian or vegan seems to be a more practical, health and humane choice.

What’s your opinion? Would love to hear your comments; maybe congress will read them too.
