Daily Caller, Generation Opportunity Opt-Out Of Obamacare

While President Obama, Congressional Democrats and their supporters are going full-steam-ahead for Obamacare, not everyone is happy about the changes to their healthcare.

Today is the first day of operation for State healthcare insurance exchanges, and “The Daily Caller,” “Generation Opportunity” and other groups opposed to Obamacare, held an “Obamacare Opt-Out” event in Washington, D.C.

Generation Opportunity, the non-partisan youth advocacy organization, launched its Opt Out campaign September 19th. They released two “Creepy Uncle Sam” videos, which went viral on YouTube and Facebook, receiving over 3.5 million views. See the video at the end of the story.

The Creepy Uncle Sam video and the Opt-out message has resonated with the younger generation, the Generation Opportunity audience. The group says many Obamacare allies have since attacked the group, calling them racists and murderers, spreading lies and distorting the group’s message.

Generation Opportunity says they want all young people to have health insurance, but the government wants them to pay not only for their own insurance, but for the insurance of older generations, whose healthcare costs are higher.

The goal of www.optout.org is to educate young people on their options. There are better deals buying non-Obamacare insurance on the private market, even paying the Obamacare penalty.

Evan Feinberg, Generation Opportunity President, said:

“We want all young people to have health insurance and purchase a plan that is right for them, not one that pays the bills at the Department of Health and Human Services.

“Thanks to our campaign, millions of young people are learning about their options, including the ability to opt out of Obamacare and buy a non-Obamacare plan on the private market.

“Our campaign is clearly aggravating the politicians and special interests who need my generation to buy creepy Obamacare insurance at three times the price in order to subsidize an older, wealthier generation.

“My generation is tired of getting a raw deal from the powerful in Washington, D.C. We are already inheriting massive debt and suffering 16% unemployment and are not going to accept another bad deal from the government. We realize that buying private insurance is cheaper and smarter than drinking the Obamacare Kool-Aid regardless of which celebrity they get to promote it.”

The cost of insurance in the government exchanges across the country is more than that in the private market. Virginia has 87 health care plans in the individual market, starting at $40.84 per month. Not all of the plans meet the standards set down by the government exchanges, but almost all are a better deal for youth in Virginia.

The whole idea of the Obamacare exchanges is that the nation’s young people will subsidize the insurance costs of older generations, and that only works if the youth are forced into buying government insurance.

Quoting President Obama, The Daily Caller wrote:

President Barack Obama famously promised, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” He later got even more specific.

“If you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have,” Obama said.

But as Obamacare’s rollout approaches, we have learned this is not true.

The Daily Caller

The Daily Caller listed ten states where Obamacare is wiping out other insurance, giving the lie to the president’s words. For example, in California, it was reported that 58,000 will lose their plans under Obamacare. In New Jersey, the number is 1.1 million.

The problem is worse. Some people who are currently insured, and see the doctor of their choice, if they change over to the government health exchange, they will be unable to remain with their current doctor.
