Response to ‘California Man Took College Exams for Middle Eastern Students’

I have attached a news report concerning an aspect of immigration fraud that was reported on this morning on Fox and Friends. In considering this disturbing news report you should also consider the broader issues concerning fraud that permeates the immigration system, especially in view of the administration having just conducted a meeting yesterday, according to the media, on “Comprehensive Immigration Reform.”

This all goes back to the issue of fraud in its many guises. The report notes that six of the students were arrested yet the news article says that more than 100 students availed themselves of Higgins’ “services.”

Many of the students came from “Special Interest” countries, that is to say, countries that have a known involvement with terrorism. While this should not be necessarily construed to mean that the students were involved in terrorism, but then, there is nothing to say that none of them were involved with terrorism, either.

Additionally, according to the article, Higgins has been doing this for a decade and “business” was so good he had to hire additional people to defraud the immigration system. How was he able to get away with it for so long? How did ICE finally find out about this?

Where are these other students and are they known by name? If so, were any of their names on any terror watch lists?

If they weren’t in school, where were they and what were they doing? Does anyone in the government know the answers to these questions?

It is also important to remember that generally the schools are generally on the “honor system” and police the program by which they provide documentation to foreign students to enable them to come to the United States to attend school. While this is the way business is now conducted, many years ago the INS used to conduct occasional investigations of schools to try to create some integrity to the system, I do not believe that any ICE agents perform any of these investigations routinely and not all of these schools are really schools. The schools that can issue I-20’s make a ton of money from this and it is actually against their best interests, financially, to go after the students who pay their tuition to the schools.

While the official position is that they have never seen this before, I am not confident that this is the first time this sort of fraud has been successfully carried out- in fact, I would be absolutely shocked if this was the first time this sort of thing has happened!

The reality is that government is not willing to discuss the extreme lack of resources dedicated to going after fraud and enforcing the immigration laws from within the interior of the United States. Once again, I want you to consider that while the NYPD has some 37,000 police officers, helping to make the Big Apple the “Safest big city in America” ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has just about 6,000 agents for the entire country and many of these agents are engaged in investigations that have nothing to do with immigration but are, instead, focused on violations of customs laws. In fact, most of the management of ICE came from Legacy Customs and not Legacy INS. As a number of my contacts at ICE have told me, there is often more concern about those who produce counterfeit Gucci handbags than those who produce counterfeit passports!

Finally, I would love to know if ICE is looking for any of the other “students” who were not attending school and if they are, what sort of resources are being made available? All too often in this game of “Hide and Seek” ICE lacks the resources to do an effective job of seeking.

Our nation, with the able assistance of our allies, won the Second World War in just 44 months. We are coming up on the 9th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and it has been more than 17 years since the attacks on the CIA and the World Trade Center in 1993 and the immigration system that enabled the terrorists to launch those attacks still has no integrity!

Meanwhile, consider the magnitude of the challenge that confronts ICE- to quote the last sentence of the news report:

More than 220,000 foreign students study each year in American colleges and universities, including about 15,500 from the Middle East.

If you are not upset about this, consider that nothing is still being said about the imperative to combat massive levels of immigration fraud. Indeed, the administration and members of Congress are already licking their chops at the prospect of creating an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens whose true identities are unknown and unknowable. There is no way of knowing their true nationalities. There is no way of knowing if they are wanted fugitives fleeing law enforcement in their own countries. There is now way of knowing who they are affiliated with or what their true intentions are in running our nation’s borders. There is also no reliable way of even knowing how long they have been in the United States. By using multiple false identities, these illegal aliens have so effectively covered their tracks that an alien who arrived here last week would have absolutely no problem in convincing the beleaguered adjudications officers at USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) that they have been in the United States for as many years as they would need in order to qualify for participation in Comprehensive Immigration Reform. This is the reason that when I wrote a commentary about Comprehensive Immigration Reform two and a half years ago when the United States Senate last attempted to jam this legislative nightmare down our throats, I strongly suggested that a much more accurate and descriptive name for that legislation would have been the “Terrorist Assistance and Facilitation Act!”

Criminals and terrorists should give our government the MVP Award!

It is often said that when people do too little too late to remedy a dangerous situation that they “Locked the barn doors after the horses were stolen.” Where our borders and the immigration system are concerned, the horses were stolen, the barn was burned down and our leaders are still refusing to lock the doors to the farmhouse!

This is a level of ineptitude that would get any other employee fired! This is the sort of ineptitude that if committed by a physician would result in a massive malpractice lawsuit! This is a level of ineptitude that if committed by a corporation would result in a massive class action lawsuit!

Enough is enough!

My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.

The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

Any politician who refuses to work to secure our borders and create an immigration system that has integrity is either corrupt or too dumb to keep his (her) job. Any politician, irrespective of party affiliation who favors Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the outrageous betrayal that this would represent given the national security implications that this program would have, should be shown the door at the next election!

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same.

Later this year, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection. Later this year more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!

However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians. I implore you to get involved!

If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

You need to politely but pointedly, demand to know what they are doing to protect our nation. You need to ask them how they are protecting you and your families.

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated; this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
