Mike Huckabee Moves Up In The Presidential Stakes

The “attack liberals” are on a rampage against Mike Huckabee, so he must be a worry for them. As always, they pick up on the slightest of things said, in an attempt to tar and feather an opposition candidate, as soon as possible. This is their modus operandi, but it only works if their intended victims allow it to work.

This week, their intended victims were Mike Huckabee and women.

Last week, Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s “Uncle Sugar” comment on the way he sees liberals treating women have been turned around by the liberal hit squads, as being his words not theirs. Their aim is to break up his presidential plans. It is unlikely to work unless Huckabee or any conservatives who didn’t hear the message right allow it to work.

So far it seems their effort had little or no negative effect, because last week, he rocketed to the top of a hypothetical Republican primary field in the latest Public Policy Polling survey.

The hypothetical race for the Democratic-leaning survey had nine candidates. The survey was held Jan. 23-26, with 845 voters, Huckabee took 16 percent, and in second place, was former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, with 14 percent.

Following close behind was New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, even after his bridge traffic problem.

The final standings were:

If the Democrats want to insult the women of America Mike Huckabee.

  • Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee 16 percent
  • Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush 14 percent
  • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie 13 percent
  • Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul 11 percent
  • Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas 8 percent
  • Marco Rubio of Florida 8 percent
  • Paul Ryan of Wisconsin 8 percent
  • Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker 6 percent
  • Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal 5 percent

Changes from the previous Public Policy Polling survey, taken the previous month, were Huckabee and Bush, who both gained 3 to 4 points, and while Christie and Cruz each lost 6 points. This likely indicates that the bridge traffic issue hit home for enough people, to push Christie off his pedestal.

Dean Debnam, Public Policy Polling president mentioned both Christie and Huckabee, saying, “Mike Huckabee’s comments last week didn’t hurt him with the GOP base. If anything, they might have helped him in combination with Chris Christie’s implosion.”

Taking aim at Democrats, at the winter meeting of the Republican National Committee in Washington last Friday, Huckabee charged Democrats with supporting government-funded contraception and accusing the GOP of perpetuating a ‘war on women.’

He said Republicans see women as intelligent, and capable of doing anything, but Democrats think women need government support.

“Women I know are smart, educated, intelligent, capable of doing anything that anyone else can do, Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women. That’s not a war on them. It’s a war for them.”

“If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government, then so be it.” – Mike Huckabee

The former governor said the mainstream media inaccurately reported his comments due to their liberal bias.

Huckabee survives another week, and is in the race to stay. He isn’t going to allow ridiculously weak attacks slow him down. Huckabee is moving up in the presidential stakes. Can he keep it up without tripping?
