Did you hear about the August 31 stabbing in Amsterdam? “A 19-year-old Afghan citizen who was shot and detained by police after stabbing two American tourists in Amsterdam’s main railway station had a ‘terrorist motive,'” reported the Associated Press.
The stabbing is no longer news. But if two American tourists had stabbed a non-American you would still be hearing about it and it would be a lead story on some news sites.
Did you hear about the German man allegedly killed by an Iraqi and a Syrian asylum seeker in a knife attack in the German town of Chemnitz on August 26? The murder occurring a stone’s throw from Chemnitz’ City Hall?
You did not hear about it because it barely made the news. What did make the news were “right wing mobs” massing in the streets in reaction to the murder and how immigrants in the city are “afraid for their lives” – even though it was a German man who was killed not an immigrant.
I am not someone who believes in “fake news” but I do see “finessed news” everywhere. Crime is severely downplayed in the interests of political correctness. For example, we are all supposed to forget that Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts was stabbed to death in August on the outskirts of her own hometown while she was jogging. The crime was allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant – someone who should never have been in this country. If the murder suspect was another Anglo college student, would the story have evaporated so quickly? What’s wrong with this picture?
Does not wanting to be stabbed to death or raped by people who should not even be in your country make you a racist?
The news media in both Europe and the United States understandably fear fanning anti-immigrant flames and emboldening violent nativists because of the sad lessons wars and ethnic violence have taught us. But they do a disservice to victims of crimes and those fearing crime in doing so because they provide only cursory coverage of violence committed by immigrants.
Media voices continually assure the public that crimes committed by immigrants are “much less” than those committed by legal residents as if the two are comparable. They are not comparable for obvious reasons. Moreover how many “rights” would a European who sneaked into Iraq or Syria or was granted “asylum” and murdered a local citizen have? Would locals who reacted against the murder be racists?
Accurate crime reporting is one of the functions and purposes of media. Yet when it comes to crimes committed by those protected by “politically correct sentiments,” media actually attack those who dare to report it rather than the perpetrators – killing the messenger.
After three violent videos were tweeted by Britain First last year, media quickly discredited the group, and members were subsequently arrested for religiously aggravated harassment.
Yet one video they tweeted, of an Islamist mob pushing a teenage boy off roof, was not inaccurate though the New York Times tried to spin it.
“The footage was taken on July 5, 2013, during clashes in the Sidi Gaber neighborhood of Alexandria, Egypt, between supporters of Mohamed Morsi, who had recently been ousted as the democratically elected president, and his opponents. That information was missing from the tweet, as was any explanation of the complex political situation in Egypt at the time,” wrote the Times.
Does a “complex political situation” make the violence okay, New York Times?
What kind of world are we now living in when releasing a video of violence is worse than the violence itself – all in the name of political correctness?
