Belgrade Should Eliminate the Untrue Slogan: ‘Kosovo is Serbia’

This is a Serbian thesis and fallacy that has never been proved with any real or objective historical evidence. Until recently, Kosovo was only an illegal colony of Serbia for nearly 100 years (1912-1999).

However, even with this historical lie that Serbian nationalists have been using since 1389, Belgrade is seeking autonomy for Kosovo’s Serbs. This political proposal was refused by Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in a recent dialogue with Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic which took place in Brussels on March 5, 2013.

As they say, “a lie has short legs.” History has shown that in communities, lies do not cultivate sincere and stable relations between people or between nations, but rather they lead to disputes and conflict. This is an important consideration as these two leaders hold talks with the mediation of the European Union representative for foreign policy, Catherine Ashton, in order to achieve reciprocal normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, as two independent and sovereign states in the Balkans.

Prime-Minister Ivica Dacic should be aware that Serbia cannot get away with this blatant lie, and that truth always prevails. Although, this lie is the alpha and omega of Serbian politics, propaganda and diplomacy, intended to defraud the Organization of the United Nations, European Union, and the United States to believe that Kosovo was Serbian territory. Historically and legally, Kosovo has never been Serbia’s territory, but has been a part of Ethnic (native) Albania.

Therefore, Serbian authorities in Belgrade along with Prime Minister Ivica Dacic haven’t the moral or legal right to exert pressure on Catherine Ashton or Washington’s diplomats that Kosovo, as an independent nation, should become a Serbian mono-ethnic cantonal area through their connection to a Serbian Association, as they are currently seeking and have expressed in talks held in Brussels.
