I am, as I am sure you know, a senior fellow at CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization). Every week I post a commentary on the CAPS website and this week my commentary addressed the extreme importance of the securing of our nation’s borders and the enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws from the vital perspective of what is arguably the most important mission a nation has- to protect itself and its citizens from attacks at the hands of the enemies of that nation. A copy of my commentary is attached below.
Our nation is currently under the imminent threat of attack each and every day!
For years our politicians spewed the same trite motto that it was virtually a mantra:
“We are fighting them (the terrorists) over there so that we don’t have to fight them over here!”
How many times did you hear former President George W. Bush make that absurd claim? How many times did you hear other “leaders” make that baseless and nonsensical claim?
Certainly the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania made that same ridiculous statement many times when he first took office.
I have hammered away at this wacky assertion ever since I first heard it!
The point is that on September 11, 2001 airliners that were used as cruise missiles took off from airports inside the United States. Those airliners crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania- locations all to be found well within the 48 contiguous states of the United States of America!
Additional terrorist plots that were thwarted by our government, by the bad luck of the terrorists and wonderful luck for the United States and the incompetence of the terrorists also targeted locations within the United States.
Passengers who are preparing to board airliners within the United States must now undergo ever increasing levels of scrutiny that are ever more invasive- yet until recently the mantra did not change, “We are fighting them over there so that we will not have to fight them over here!”
If you believe this denial of reality, I have a fence to sell you!
The point is that the “War on Terror” and the “War on Drugs” (including the extremely violent Mexican drug cartels whose tactics include acts of violence that are indistinguishable from al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations) must be fought over here as well as “over there!”
In order to fight terrorists, members of the drug cartels and others transnational criminals who engage in criminal activities must be prevented from entering our country in the first place!
As a backup, efforts must be made to seek to locate, apprehend and bring to justice and/or seek the removal (deportation) of those who are in our country today. You cannot have a successful war on terror and wage a successful battle against the transnational terrorists and criminals when our nation has unknown tens of millions of illegal aliens present in our country.
Furthermore- providing such malevolent individuals with a pathway to lawful status and United States citizenship would serve the goals of those terrorist and criminal aliens who seek to conceal their true identities and embed themselves in communities across our country. As I noted at a Congressional hearing conducted on July 27, 2006, any politician who seeks to implement such a program should be given the “MVP Award” by al Qaeda!
That hearing was conducted by the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims on the topic:
“WHETHER THE ATTEMPTED IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REID-KENNEDY IMMIGRATION BILL WILL RESULT IN AN ADMINISTRATIVE AND NATIONAL SECURITY NIGHTMARE”

Please take the time to read my commentary that I have posted below.
A country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!
If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!
We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.
If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”
The practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.
The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!
The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians. I implore you to get involved!
I believe our nation’s is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world. However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda!
If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Lead, follow or get out of the way!
Additionally- this summer, on Friday afternoons from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Savings Time, I will be filling in for Tom Garcia as the host on The USA Talk Radio Network’s excellent radio show, “The American Hour.”
I hope you will be joining me on Fridays this summer!
