Immigration Crisis Confronting Our Nation

Once again the journalists at WSB-TV, the ABC affiliated television station in Atlanta, Georgia has produced and aired news reports that are of great importance. This time they aired two reports earlier today, Monday, November 8th that address aspects of the immigration crisis that confronts our nation. I am pleased to have been included in one of these two reports.

The report for which I was interviewed by the producer, Brad Stone, is entitled “Taxpayer Dollars Fund Luxury Detention Centers for Illegal Immigrants.”

While I certainly agree that we must treat prisoners as well as aliens being detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) humanely, the extent to which our government has decided to create a “welcoming” environment for aliens who are being detained who have been accused of violating our nation borders and/or other immigration laws is astounding!

It is clear that many of those aliens in ICE custody may well never have received comparable treatment in their entire lives in their home countries! Is this the way that precious taxpayer dollars should be spent at a time when the money would be better spent beefing up enforcement efforts aimed at securing our nation’s borders and creating an immigration system that has meaningful integrity?

The second news report is of no less significance (even though I was not interviewed for this report).

It is believed that the pernicious Mexican drug cartels have set up shop in Georgia, to grow marijuana on public lands. As I have noted on ever so many occasions, it is clear that the issue of border security is not limited to those states traditionally thought of as “border states” but actually involve virtually every one of our nation’s 50 states.

The fact that the cartels are now alleged to be growing millions of dollars of marijuana on the east coast of the United States provides clear evidence of just how extensive the reach of the violent Mexican cartels has become in our nation.

Here is a copy of a chart that appears in that news report- I urge you to take a long look at the chart and see how the cartels have spread out in our country in the past 15 years:

The cartels are known for using such extreme violence as a means of intimidating competitors as well as law enforcement and anyone else who stands in their way that their tactics have become virtually indistinguishable from those employed by radical Islamist terrorists. Since Mexican President Felipe Calderon took office just a few short years ago, more than 28,000 people have been slaughtered in Mexico. This level of carnage is nearly ten times as great as the number of casualties of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and these gang members are now operating throughout our country!

It is worth considering that the extreme violence perpetrated by the Mexican cartels may begin happening inside the United States unless our government takes border security seriously and exhibits the political will to not only enforce our borders, but enforce the immigration laws from within the interior of the United States to discourage massive illegal immigration and also help to develop a cadre of confidential informants who can prove to be of invaluable assistance in the identification, investigation, apprehension and successful prosecution of drug gang members as well as other transnational criminals from across the globe and terrorists.

It is my concern that it is not unreasonable to expect that those who may happen upon marijuana crops being cultivated on public land by the cartels may be killed to prevent them from tipping off authorities and to send a message to others who may seek to notify law enforcement authorities in the United States about drug related activities of the cartels.

I fear that just as the federal government has taken to the outrageous practice of posting signs warning American citizens in their own country that they should avoid wide tracts of land through which heavily armed smugglers may be

Here is the headline for that news report

On August 31st of this year the Washington Times published an extremely disturbing news report for which I was interviewed. The report was entitled,

Signs in Arizona warn of smuggler dangers – Drivers advised to travel north

Here is the beginning of this hard-hitting news report:

8:58 p.m., Tuesday, 31, August 2010

The federal government has posted signs along a major interstate highway in Arizona, more than 100 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, warning travelers the area is unsafe because of drug and alien smugglers, and a local sheriff says Mexican drug cartels now control some parts of the state.

The signs were posted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, a major east-west corridor linking Tucson and Phoenix with San Diego.

They warn travelers that they are entering an “active drug and human smuggling area” and they may encounter “armed criminals and smuggling vehicles traveling at high rates of speed.” Beginning less than 50 miles south of Phoenix, the signs encourage travelers to “use public lands north of Interstate 8” and to call 911 if they “see suspicious activity.”

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, whose county lies at the center of major drug and alien smuggling routes to Phoenix and cities east and west, attests to the violence. He said his deputies are outmanned and outgunned by drug traffickers in the rough-hewn desert stretches of his own county.

“Mexican drug cartels literally do control parts of Arizona,” he said. “They literally have scouts on the high points in the mountains and in the hills and they literally control movement. They have radios, they have optics, they have night-vision goggles as good as anything law enforcement has.

“This is going on here in Arizona,” he said. “This is 70 to 80 miles from the border – 30 miles from the fifth-largest city in the United States.”

He said he asked the Obama administration for 3,000 National Guard soldiers to patrol the border, but what he got were 15 signs.

What will happen if our government’s leaders decide that the “solution” to the cartels operating throughout our nation is to simply set up more signs warning our citizens about more swaths of land that have been, de facto, ceded to the cartels?

There is an oft used expression that if you give someone a finger, they will take your whole hand!

Today you might say that if we give the cartels our borders, they will ultimately take our whole country!

We have witnessed the continual erosion of our expectations of privacy in the name of national security and the “War on Terror.” I would love to know how the federal government plans to win this war if ever more members of the drug cartels as well as aliens from “Special Interest” countries (countries identified as being the state sponsors of terrorist organizations or at the very least have been identified as being involved with terrorist organization such as al Qaeda, easily enter our country and embed themselves within towns and cities from coast to coast and border to border.

Here are links to some other excellent news report I have previously written about that I were aired by WSB-TV about the threat posed by our nation’s continuing failures to secure our borders and prevent the entry of aliens who may well have goals that are far more sinister then simply working illegally in the United States:

News reports, such as those for which I have provided for you below, along with links to the relating videos that aired on WSB-TV this evening, provide clear and convincing evidence of the duplicitous conduct of our government and many of our political “leaders.”

Honest and effective reporting enlightens the citizens of our nation and this, in turn, will require that the government finally do that which the politicians and the political appointees have tried to convince us they have been doing all along, while lying through their teeth!

This is the true value of honest journalism and is the principle behind the First Amendment!

If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.

My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.

The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

Last week the voices of the citizens of our nation were heard in voting booths across this nation. The leadership in the House of Representatives, the “People’s House” has shifted to the Republican Party. I can tell you that I am thrilled that when Congress re-convenes in January that the House Judiciary Committee will be chaired by a true leader in the House of Representatives, Representative Lamar Smith. I have known Mr. Smith for many years and, in fact, the very first time I was invited to testify before a Congressional hearing it was before the House Immigration Subcommittee that he chaired at the time, back in May of 1997.

I am similarly optimistic that effective this January, the House Immigration Subcommittee will be chaired by another true leader, Congressman Steve King. I am also very familiar with Mr. King and look forward to his leadership.

That these two leaders will be in their respective positions is encouraging but this is only the starting point. What is of extreme importance is that every citizen of our country remembers that while it was the decisions made by the citizens on Election Day that has caused the important changes in the House of Representatives, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation for far too long, emboldened too many of our elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in making our concerns known to our politicians have, over the past several decades, made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians. I implore you to get involved!

If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are involved and we will not allow the madness that got us into this mess to continue!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!
