Doomsday Comet and Near Earth Asteroid Too Close for Comfort

Doomsday Comet, Giant Asteroid and First National Test of the Emergency Broadcasting System: Doomsday or Not?

As we all come closer to 2012 and the numerous doomsday predictions it seems like October was the beginning of the end or not? The controversial Comet Elenin was discovered and projected to reach the inner solar system and come dangerously close to Earth. The comet made a swing through the inner solar system in recent months, coming closest to Earth on Oct. 16, but by the time that it reached our inner solar system in the same way that many other comets meet their demise, Comet Elenin was broken apart by the sun’s gravity and all that was left were crumbs. After which, NASA dubbed the comet, “The Comet That Never Was.”

Other speculation about Comet Elenin was that it could have possibly been the blue star predicted by Nostradamus and others believe that it is the remnants of the 13th Planet, Nibiru, which has also been referred to as Planet X.

If Comet Elenin doesn’t scare you then maybe the giant asteroid (YU55) which is the size of an aircraft carrier headed in our direction will. The asteroid will come as close to Earth as the moon and can be seen by the naked eye or a telescope. It will make its closest approach at exactly 6:28 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday. If the asteroid was to hit Earth it would cause an Earthquake, 7.2 magnitude or higher and a possible tsunami 72 feet tall.

The most interesting aspect of these terrestrial events is for the first time in history the United States will be testing its National Emergency Broadcasting System on November 9th. This type of test has never been conducted in the United States and it leaves the question, Is our Government telling us everything we need to know? The International Seed Vault project began in 2008. This is one of the more positive steps being taken in the event that there is a major disaster in 2012.

An even more mysterious construction project is currently underway outside of The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Construction workers are digging an enormous hole and refuse to say what they are building. Some suspect that it could be an underground railway to use in the event of an evacuation.

The first Nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be carried out on November 9, 2011. For more information about the test or access to the participant reporting system, please click here.
