VH-1 Makes Plans for Biopic of R&B/Hip-Hop Group TLC

VH-1 is returning to its music roots, as the cable network is currently in the process of making a biography movie based on the female R&B trio.

Throughout the 1990s, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes” brought “girl power” on the charts with hits like “Baby-Baby-Baby”, “Creep”, “Waterfalls”, “No Scrubs”, and “Unpretty”. Selling more than 50 million records worldwide, TLC went on to become the biggest U.S. female group of all time.

However, their success was sometimes overshadowed by personal turmoils: Tionne’s sickle-cell disease; Lopes’ on/off troubled relationship with NFL wide receiver Andre “Bad Moon” Rison, which led to the burning of his Atlanta house back in 1994; the group filing bankruptcy a year later; rising tensions within them and Lopes’ 2002 accidental death, which was then chronicled on the documentary The Last Days of Left Eye aired on VH-1 in 2007.

Kate Lanier, who wrote the screenplay of the 1993 Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It?, will write the script with T-Boz and Chilli serving as both consultants and executive producers of the project.
