Let’s start with the “A” stands for
Anastasia A: The A stands for A+! Just kidding! The A is the first initial of my last name. However, it is too long and not so catchy! I guess I wanted new fans to be able to search for me online with no problems!
What was the underlying purpose of writing “Kiss & Tell,” and why was so important to have band auditions during the weekend of Valentine’s Day?
Anastasia A: Writing “Kiss & Tell” was something I had to do. I wasn’t writing it for a single or even my album at the time. I was at home listening to the production and felt so inspired to write something fun, upbeat and empowering! I had just moved on from a failed relationship and felt like telling a story through this song. The band auditions were held the weekend of my release because it was finally coming together and it was great timing to combine the release and auditions for buzz! Also, things started moving much quicker than we expected so we needed the band!
Who and what were your musical influences growing up and why?
Anastasia A: When I was in grade school I used to stay in my room for hours listening to the radio and singing Brandy, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Hanson, Spice Girls, and I wanted to be just like them. I guess I knew from the start that singing, dancing and performing was everything I have ever dreamed of. These women inspired me to be a girl, to have fun and to enjoy music.
Are you planning on releasing a full-length album sometime later this year?
Anastasia A: Everyone is asking me this, but I still am not sure! Right now, we are focusing on single to single. However, I may just release an EP. I wanted to earlier this summer, but I didn’t realize that it was too soon and not the right approach! Keep your eyes and ears on standby because I am thinking about it!
What is your agenda for the year 2012? What do you hope to accomplish?
Anastasia A: 2012 is such an amazing year! So much has happened for me and it doesn’t look like its slowing down! I truly just want to focus on more writing and production, and, of course, play more shows! I also want to establish my own charity fund for some issues I have always wanted to help and convince the Canadian blood services to let me be an ambassador! Aside from that, release at least 2 more power pop singles!

Tell us about your upcoming showcase at Canadian Music Week
Anastasia A: I will be performing at this year’s CMW on March 24th 8pm at Neutral Lounge! I am very excited! This will be my first major performance with my new band and my very first year in CMW! It’s all on the CanadianMusicFest website.
